Equestrian rider in competition

EQNAV Mobile Application

EQ NAV is a purpose-built platform for the United States equestrian community, bringing everything riders need into one place. It enables athletes to track competition scores, understand qualification requirements for their target events, connect with fellow riders, and stay updated with the competition calendar. The platform was inspired by a lifelong equestrian and professional trainer from a family with three generations of experience in the sport, who recognized firsthand how fragmented and difficult the existing systems were for American riders. Built on deep industry expertise, EQ NAV solves these challenges by providing a modern, user-friendly platform that supports the entire equestrian ecosystem from junior riders and their parents to experienced trainers and competitive professionals.

The Problem

For American equestrians, the sport's data lives with the USEF but getting to it is a genuine ordeal.

Scores were locked behind a poor experience.

Fetching results from the USEF website was a major hassle. The information riders needed most their own competition history was buried in an interface that wasn't built with the athlete in mind.

Qualification was a black box.

Every competition carries its own qualification criteria, and USEF applies different rules and scoring mechanisms across different states and disciplines. For a young athlete trying to reach a specific event, the core question "How many points do I still need, and from which competitions?" had no clear answer. Riders and parents were left doing manual math against rules that were difficult to even locate.

The community had no home of its own.

Equestrians were improvising community on platforms never designed for them. Our client experienced this firsthand: traveling with a trailer and an open spot, she posted on Facebook hoping to find someone to ride with but because Facebook isn't an equestrian community, she couldn't reach the right people. None of them found her.

Knowledge was scattered.

The rules, the terminology, the qualification pathways — the sport's institutional knowledge was spread thin, and hardest of all to access for the youngest athletes and their families just entering the sport.

The Vision

Give the US equestrian community one place where everything is handled.

EQ NAV set out to take the parts of the sport that were fragmented, opaque, or hostile to use and make them effortless. The founding goal was simple: show every rider their past event scores clearly. But as we worked through the domain, it became obvious that scores were only the entry point. The real opportunity was to build the connective tissue for the entire sport: results, qualification, events, knowledge, and people, unified under one roof and designed for the way equestrians actually live and compete.

Core Features

EQ NAV score history dashboard on mobile

Score History

The foundation of EQ NAV. Riders see their complete USEF competition history in a clean, readable timeline no more wrestling with a clunky federation portal to answer basic questions about their own record.

EQ NAV goal and qualification tracking screens

Qualification Tracking

The feature that turns EQ NAV from a viewer into a companion. Riders set a target event, and EQ NAV interprets the relevant USEF qualification rules accounting for discipline and state-level differences to show exactly how many points they have, how many they still need, and which upcoming competitions can get them there.

Events

By integrating APIs from event providers, EQ NAV surfaces all upcoming competitions in one feed and, crucially, connects each event back to the rider's goals so they can see how a given competition affects their qualification.

Community

A social feed built for equestrians. Riders can post, interact, and engage the way they would on a mainstream social platform but inside a space where everyone shares the sport. This is the feature born directly from our client's.

Equestrian Chatbot

A domain-specific assistant trained on equestrian knowledge, giving every athlete especially juniors new to the sport instant, reliable answers about rules, scoring, terminology, and qualification.

EQNAV Mobile Application

EQ NAV moved through a full-lifecycle engagement — from first principles research all the way to the live growth work we're doing today.

Equestrian rider with horse

Community

We began with research into how equestrian scoring, qualification, and event systems actually work — and who uses them. We mapped personas across the sport: the senior rider, the junior rider and their parents, the trainer managing a barn full of athletes, and the professional competitor navigating qualification at the highest level.

EQ NAV branding on blue card

Branding

From the name to the logo, typography, and tone of voice, we built an identity that feels native to the sport — confident, clear, and built for people who live in boots and breeches, not boardrooms.

EQ NAV high-fidelity wireframe screens

UX & High-Fidelity Wireframes

We mapped the product end to end — every flow, every screen, every edge case — before a single pixel of UI was finalized. High-fidelity wireframes became the shared language between product, design, and engineering.

UI Design

With wireframes locked, we moved into visual design — translating the EQ NAV identity into a polished, production-ready interface system.

Frontend Development

We built the client layer for performance, responsiveness, and the level of polish the experience demanded.

Backend Development

The engine room. We built the data layer, APIs, and services that power scores, qualification logic, events, and the social layer.

Software Quality Assurance (SQA)

Before anything shipped, we ran structured QA across devices, flows, and integrations — ensuring every release met the bar for a platform riders would trust with their competitive record.

Deployment

We deployed the platform to production with the infrastructure, release process, and monitoring needed to run reliably at scale.

Performance Marketing (current phase)

With EQ NAV live, we're now partnering on performance marketing — acquisition, retention, and the growth work that turns a great product into a growing community.
